Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to the exciting world of Year One!  This is a very important year, making the transition from the Reception curriculum to working in Key Stage One.  We have lots of exciting learning to do this year and lots of challenges to achieve.  Our topics this year include Who am I?, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Neil Armstrong, Countries of the UK and many more!  We love inviting visitors in and going out to different places to help our learning come to life.

A big part of Year 1 is phonics and using our amazing knowledge of sounds to help us become very confident and fluent readers.  Reading five times a week at home will really help us with this and we love winning special prizes for our reading. We also try to learn to join our writing by the end of this year so we have fun practising in lots of different ways.
