Safer Internet Day
Parents and Carers,
Tuesday 5th February 2019 is Safer Internet Day. Safer Internet Day is coordinated by the Insafe/INHOPE network and is celebrated every year across Europe, and in other countries worldwide. The aim is to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology.
In the UK, Safer Internet Day is organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre www.saferinternetday.org.uk with the main principal ‘Together for a better internet’. This year’s theme is ‘Our internet, our choice: Understanding consent in a digital world’ with a focus on teaching young people to seek permission before sharing content online.
RLK is participating alongside hundreds of other schools across the UK and pupils will be learning about how to use the internet safely and positively.
We believe that e-safety education is a crucial element of the curriculum and an essential part of young people’s development and life skills.
Our aim is to work alongside parents and to help you and your child celebrate the many positives of the internet, but also raising awareness of the issues that children and young people face online today. As a result, empowering young people to make the right decisions.
In addition to the Digital Parenting magazine we sent home to each family during the last academic year (some copies still available in the main lobby) please find attached a list of useful resources and websites and some suggested conversation starters you may wish to have with your child.
Any queries or concerns regarding keeping your child safe online then please contact Mrs MacKinnon, Mrs Smith or myself.
