On January 23rd, Year 6 had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament in London. After a long coach journey we eventually arrived and (after some strict security checks) we begun our tours. We were immediately taken aback by the architecture and grandeur of the building, from the huge portraits to the golden throne. The Robe Room threw us back in time to the Victorian era, where an empty chair sat with a tiny pedestal which had been specifically made for Queen Victoria.
Throughout the trip we learnt key information based on the House of Lords and the House of Commons as well as democracy in our country. Our guide took us through how changes have occurred to the building and democratic system as well as how we could meet our local MP and discuss issues with him in the Lobby.
We had an amazing day and saw a few of the sites of London along the way.
